GUELPH, ONTARIO, CANADA - A pair of U.S. wrestlers, women's freestyler Alyssa Lampe (Tomahawk, Wis./USOEC), and men's freestyler Terry Madden (New York, N.Y./New York AC) won gold medals at the Canada Cup.

Lampe won the title at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. beating Anika Hoffman of Germany in the finals. Lampe won four matches in the tournament, three by fall. She attends Northern Michigan Univ.

Madden won the 84 kg/185 lbs. title, stopping fellow American Alton Lucas in the finals. Madden had four victories on the way to the crown, including wins against athletes from Puerto Rico, South Africa and Canada. Lucas, who wrestled for Hofstra Univ. this year, won his first three matches, stopping opponents from New Zealand, Canada and Korea.

The United States placed third as a team in both the women's and the men's division.

USA Wrestling sent its Junior World Team for women to the Canada Cup as part of its preparation for the Junior World Championships in Beijing, China in late August. The men's freestyle athletes were all part of a New York Athletic Club team that went to compete in the tournament.

Winning a silver medal in the women's division for the USA were Cherea Pascua (Oahu, Hawaii/USOEC), at 55 kg/121 lbs. Pascua's only loss came in the finals against 2004 Olympic silver medalist Tonya Verbeek of Canada. She scored victories over athletes from Germany, New Zealand and Canada on the way to the title. Pascua attends Northern Michigan Univ.

Capturing a bronze medal in the men's division for the USA was Brad Pataky (Clearfield, Pa./New York AC), at 55 kg/121 lbs. Pataky had a 4-1 record in the tournament, with his only loss to Korea's Lee Seung-Chul in the semifinals. He beat Patel Kripa of India in the bronze-medal match. Pataky attends Penn State Univ.

Other U.S. placewinners in the women's division were:
- Julieta Okot (New York, N.Y./New York AC), 4th at 51 kg/112.25 lbs.
- Tatiana Padilla (LaVerne, Calif./California Grapplers), 4th at 59 kg/130 lbs.
