U.S. Beach Nationals in Rochester, N.Y., July 7-8, won’t be rained out due to indoor backup plan
ROCHESTER, N.Y. - For the first time since USA Wrestling has hosted Beach Wrestling events, the 2007 U.S. Beach National Wrestling Championships and World Team Trials is guaranteed to be held, regardless of the weather.
The U.S. Beach Nationals and World Team Trials is set to be held on Charlotte Beach in Rochester, N.Y., July 7-8. However, athletes who travel there can be guaranteed that there will not be a rainout.
It was scheduled over two days to allow adjustments if needed. If Saturday's weather is not acceptable, the tournament will be postponed until Sunday.
The backup plan if rain impacts both days of competition is to hold the event at Hot Shots Indoor Volleyball in Rochester, an outstanding indoor beach volleyball facility, located at 1046 University Ave, Rochester, NY 14607
Hot Shots, founded in 1989, is one of the largest indoor volleyball facilities in the nation.
In addition to its indoor beach volleyball courts, Hot Shots has undergone a recent expansion. Included are three new hard courts, new locker room facilities, a new bar and the Hot Shots Sports Bar and Grill restaurant.
Hot Shots is also the site of the Early Registration and Weigh-in for the U.S. Beach Nationals. Any athletes who wish to register and weigh in on Friday, July 6, can go to Hot Shots between 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Those who register and weigh in Friday will not have to do that on Saturday morning.

Of course, everybody coming to the Beach Nationals is hoping for a beautiful weather weekend. Besides the wrestling, it will be a weekend of fun, with many activities along Lake Ontario. Also held during the weekend are two other major sports events, the American Power Boat Association's Toyota Water Jam and the New York Beach Volleyball Championships. In addition, the Ontario Beach Sports and Music Festival will be held during the weekend.
There will be DJs on the beach all weekend, great food, and thousands of beachgoers and local citizens enjoying the music and the sports and the summer atmosphere.
There will be competition at five age divisions at the U.S. Beach National Championships: Schoolboy/girl, Cadet, Junior, Senior (men and women) and Veterans. In all age groups, weight classes will be determined after weighins, using the blocked weight system. There should be a number of weight classes in each of the age divisions.
The World Team Trials on the Senior level will determine the U.S. team to compete in the Beach Wrestling competition at the World Wrestling Games in Antalya, Turkey, Sept. 7-9.
Beach Wrestling was added as a new style of international wrestling, starting in 2005. Athletes compete on sand, in a style that features takedowns within a ring. The sport has been growing in popularity across the nation.
There is still time for athletes to make plans to attend the U.S. Beach National Wrestling Championships and World Team Trials in Rochester, N.Y., July 6-8.
Athletes may register on site, but all are encouraged to sign up in advanced in order to receive a discount on their entry fee.
All participants can sign up online at the following link:
All athletes SHOULD pre-register on-line at by 6:00 PM (EST), Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007 or will be subjected to a late fee.
