Spots still available for FILA age-group Women’s Training Camp set for Lock Haven, Pa., Dec. 27-30
USA Wrestling will be hosting a camp for young women wrestlers on the FILA Cadet and FILA Junior levels at Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, Pa., December 27-30.
This camp was set up for members of the Women’s FILA Cadet and FILA Junior National Teams, which were determined at the 2012 Body Bar Nationals in Florida. At this point, after the national team registration ended, the camp is not full. This great training opportunity has been opened to any young women wrestlers in the two age divisions with a current USA Wrestling membership card.
The FILA Junior age-group includes athletes who are 17-20 years old (born 1993-1996). The FILA Cadet age-group includes athletes who are 15-17 years old (born 1996-1998)
This camp will be led by USA Wrestling National Women's Head Coach Terry Steiner and Olympic Training Center Resident Coach Erin Tomeo. Steiner has led the U.S. Women’s National Team since 2002, and was a NCAA champion for Iowa and top freestyle wrestler. Tomeo, a U.S. World Team member as an athlete, is a native of Pennsylvania.
The technique focus areas will be counter offense and leg lace offense and defense. The Sport Psychology topic will be energy management. The Nutrition topic will be making weight tips and tricks.
Interest in this camp is high and there is limited space, so register soon!
The cost of the camp is $175. This cost includes room, board and local transportation. The cost for commuters will be $100. If you will be flying in for this camp, be sure to book your flight into the Harrisburg Airport.
FINAL Registration Deadline for all age divisions is Saturday, December 8th.
Originally, USA Wrestling set up two separate camps on this date, one for FILA Cadets in New York and one for FILA Juniors in Pennsylvania. These camps have been combined, and both age divisions will have a great learning experience at the Lock Haven location.

Last weekend, USA Wrestling held the first FILA Cadet National Team Camp at West Covina High School in West Covina, California. The successful camp featured 14 athletes, including eight national team members. Instruction was provided by Coach Steiner, along with 2012 FILA Cadet World Team Coach Donnie Stephens.
These camps are part of a series of development camps established to cultivate the top youth women wrestlers. Education is the main focus of these camps. The campers participated in technique and conditioning sessions as well as nutrition and sport psychology seminars in West Covina.
Coach Steiner has a specific goal in mind for these camps, which are designed to improve all of the athletes who attend the camp, but also build the overall U.S. women’s wrestling development system.
“Success is achieved when the entire National Team is attending camps and athletes are consistently attending each camp within the series. Let’s remember that our foreign competitors are together training sixty to eighty days a year. We must unify our efforts on the age-group levels to achieve international success,” said Steiner.
