Three athletes from Team USA took home medals at the Women’s World Cup in Ulan-baatar, Mongolia on March 2-3, announced FILA, the international wrestling federation. Individual medalists were published on the FILA Database.

Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md./Sunkist Kids) took home a gold medal for the United States at 55 kg. Maroulis had a 4-0 record in the dual meet competition, defeating opponents from Kazakhstan, China, Belarus and Japan.

Maroulis was a three-time World Team member and won a silver at the 2012 World Championships. She also medaled at the 2008 and 2010 Junior World Championships.

Earning silver at this year’s World Cup were Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Veronica Carlson (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 67 kg/147.5 lbs.

2012 World gold medalist and 2012 Olympian Pirozhkova had a 3-1 record at the World Cup, winning her first three matches before being pinned by Yurika Ito of Japan in the third place match.

Carlson went 2-2 at the competition, pinning both Zarina Kunangarayeva of Kazakhstan and Krystsina Fedarashka of Belarus, but losing to Xu Haiyan of China and Chiaki Iijima of Japan.

Carlson was a 2009 Junior World silver medalist.

The United States placed fourth overall with a record of 2-2 at this year’s Women’s World Cup. The U.S. defeated Kazakhstan and Belarus to finish 2-1 in the pool and moved on to compete for third place against Japan. The U.S. fell to Japan 4-3 to earn fourth place.
