U.S. Greco-Roman Olympian Quincey Clark named San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month



2000 U.S. Olympic Team member Quincey Clark named amateur Star of the Month by the San Diego Hall of Champions for the month of June. 2000 U.S. Greco-Roman Olympic Team member Quincey Clark of New Brighton, Minn. was chosen as an amateur athlete Star of the Month by the San Diego Hall of Champions for the month of June. Clark originally hails from San Diego. This is the third time Clark has been presented with this award. He was also honored in May of 1999 and March of 1995. Clark qualified to represent the U.S. in Sydney, Australia by winning the U.S. Greco-Roman Olympic Team Trials for Wrestling at 182.25 pounds. The trials were held June 24-29 in Dallas, Texas. Clark also won the U.S. Nationals in April for the second year in a row. He has been ranked number one at his weight class for three consecutive years and has been a member of the U.S. Greco-Roman National Team for four years. Clark finished eighth in the 1998 and 1999 World Championships. An accounting major, Clark attended the University of Oklahoma and in 1996 he finished second at the NCAA Championships. He also attended San Diego State University and finished seventh at the 1992 NCAA Championships. Clark graduated from Lincoln Prep High School in San Diego where he also lettered in football. The San Diego Hall of Champions Star of the Month Award dates back to 1947. The award is presented to both men and women athletes who have excelled that particular month. It is presented on three levels: prep, amateur and professional. Each athlete chosen for the award has a personal connection to the San Diego area. Clark is the fourth Olympic wrestler to be chosen for the award. Past Olympians include Dick Delgado, J Robinson and Jim Striger. 1999 Freestyle World Champion Stephen Neal, of Bakersfield, Calif. has been given the Star of the Month award nine times over the course of five years. Most recently, Neal was honored in October of 1999 after the World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. Also in 1999, he was chosen as San Diego Hall of Champions Male Star of the Year for the second consecutive time. Neal atteneded San Diego High School. Winners of the Star of the Month award are invited to attend an annual "Salute to the Champions" awards dinner held in February of the following year. An action photo of each athlete is also displayed in the "Star of the Month" exhibit at the San Diego Hall of Champions.
