Quotes and Comments from the National Duals through the 4th Session

Leroy Vega, on fighting back from previous losses "I lost to Powell before, but I went back and worked on things like bottom and going forward on my shots....for me its a revenge weekend...with Strittmatter from Iowa and the OSU guy. I owe these guys some losses; Powell was just my first bit of revenge." Bryan Snyder, Nebraska All-American and highly rated 157 pounder, has a new tattoo that reads: "One People One Love" Otto Olson top-rated 174 pounder from Michigan, on being the guy people want to beat. "There's pressure with tht #1 ranking.....guys always come out and give you their best match....I want to stay healthy and finish strong and that means winning a national title." J Robinsonm, Head Coach for Minnesota, on the approaching bout against the Iowa Hawkeyes. "It's going to be a fund dual. The match is going to be fought out in the lower weights, Michigan won 6 of 10 matches against Iowa and still lost, we know we can't afford to give up the bonus points in the low weights. If the match is close late we'll come on strong." Joe McFarland, Head Coach for Michigan, on his team's tussle with the Hawkeyes. "Iowa is still Iowa......we've learned from them to wrestle hard and hopefully we can take things from this match to beat them next time." Brad Vering, top-rated and defending National champ, on his battle with a freshman who earlier upset Mark Munoz. "I was a little nervous going into the match. I need to finish stronger and really open up on a guy....but I feel I'm where I need to be at this point in the season." Kerry McCoy, 2000 Olympian and assistant at Lehigh, on the growing parity in college wrestling "We got a lot more teams making a run to be successful. It's not just Iowa and OSU anymore. There's more team closing the gap all the time." Terry Brand, on what Nebraska needs to do to be a team on top at the end of the year "Belief, we have to believe that we can beat guys when were in a tight match. I wouldn't trade this team for anything, but right now we have to dig deeper and wrestle with more heart in the match." Bob Jones, heavyweight wrestler from Penn State, on what he was thinking with 10 seconds left, needing an escape to win his match and the dual for the Nittany Lions. If Jones didn't escape ASU would have won by a riding point secured with the last tick of the clock, because riding time was at 50 seconds. "Honestly, I was thinking about all the times my older brothers held me down....I knew that was going to help me get away. Getting that escape was great."
