Hofstra's Schmiesing, Rider's Scannell ECWA Wrestlers of the Week; Drexel's Jones ECWA Rookie of the



LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ--Eric Schmiesing of Hofstra University and Shawn Scannell of Rider University have been named the East Coast Wrestling Association Wrestlers of the Week, and Chris Jones of Drexel University was named the ECWA Rookie of the Week, for all competition January 15-21. Schmiesing, a senior from St. Cloud, MN (St. Cloud Tech) who is currently ranked sixth in the nation at 149 pounds, defeated the third ranked wrestler in the nation on his way to a 2-0 week at the National Duals. Scannell, a senior from Oceanville, NJ (Absegami) who is currently ranked ninth in the nation at 184 by Intermat, 13th by Amateur Wrestling News, also went 2-0 last week. With Rider trailing Drexel 18-15, Scannell, a returning all-American, won an 11-3 major decision in the final bout of the match to give Rider the 19-18 ECWA victory. Scannell improved to 16-3, 7-0 in duals. Schmiesing, a returning all-American, defeated Minnesota's Jared Lawrence, 4-2, and Penn State's Nate Wachter, 6-0, to improve to 22-3 on the season. Jones, a freshman from Easton, PA (Easton Area), also went 2-0 last week, defeating 19th ranked Marc DeFrancesco of Rider in an ECWA dual meet, and posting a major decision in Drexel's win over East Stroudsburg. Jones, who was also the ECWA rookie of the week last week, improves to 13-4 overall, 8-2 in duals and 4-0 in the ECWA.
