Klemm, Clark and Gentry join Stanford wrestling staff

Stanford, Calif. - Head coach Kerry McCoy announced the completion of his staff today, as Kevin Klemm, John Clark and Matt Gentry will serve as assistants for the 2005-06 season.

"I am very excited to have my staff complete," notes McCoy. "Kevin Klemm brings a lot of experience in wrestling, as well as experience with the Stanford program. John Clark has a lot of experience as two-time All-American and two-time Big Ten finalist, and will add to the strength of our coaching staff. As Stanford's first National Champion and a recent member of the team, Matt Gentry will definitely be an asset to our program. Overall, I'm very excited to have a solid staff, and we are ready to move forward. Our goal is to be a top program."

Klemm will begin his third season as a member of the Cardinal coaching staff this fall. A Central Missouri State graduate, Klemm moved to The Farm from the Midwest, where he had been serving as the head coach of the East Kansas Wrestling Club from 1989-2003. During his tenure, Klemm helped produce over 100 USA Wrestling All-Americans, 21 USAW individual national champions, and more than 15 wrestlers who earned scholarships at Division I schools.

Clark, two-time All-American out of Ohio State, will take on his first coaching assignment as he joins the Stanford staff as an assistant. Clark became the ninth Buckeye in school history to earn multiple All-America honors when he captured fifth place at the 2004 NCAA Championships. Clark finished his tenure in Columbus ranked fourth in career wins with 134 and is ranked third all-time in takedowns (486) and in team points (432.0), joining OSU standouts Tommy Rowlands and Adam DiSabato as the only Buckeye wrestlers to reach 400 career takedowns and 400 team points.

Gentry, Stanford's first NCAA Champion, graduated this spring, but will remain on The Farm this fall as a volunteer assistant coach while he continues to train. In 2004, Gentry went 42-0 en route to the NCAA title at 157 pounds. He is the school record holder with 138 career victories and also owns the Stanford record for consecutive wins with 64 from 2003-05.

McCoy, Klemm, Clark and Gentry will begin working with the Stanford wrestling team this fall, as the Cardinal prepares for its season opener against Missouri on Nov. 11.
