Quotes from U.S. wrestlers Williams, Lawal and Cormier, and coaches Seay and Jackson after weighins

74 kg/163 lbs. - Joe Williams, Ames, Iowa (Sunkist Kids)

"It feels good. The coaches definitely had us ready, with the workouts and by putting us in difficult situations that we will face in our matches. I am excited. Any time you have the opportunity to represent your country in a setting like this, it is a great opportunity for success. I feel good going in."

84 kg/185 lbs. - Mo Lawal, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Gator WC)

"I am ready to run. I'll get on the scale and get down to business. I am ready to take people out. I didn't go through all those workouts for no reason. I am here to assassinate the opponents and build my resume. Coaches Jackson and Brands had a plan, and I followed it 100%, no questions asked. I have to execute my technique and match strategy. I'll be good. I didn't move to Colorado Springs without a reason. It wasn't just a camping trip. I am ready. There is no pressure on me. Some people doubt me. I am no Cael Sanderson. I am not a familiar face. I have been doubted my whole life. Once I win, they will hate me even more, and I will love it."

96 kg/211.5 lbs. - Daniel Cormier, Stillwater, Okla. (Gator WC)

"I feel good. I am ready. I have done everything. Our coaches have prepared us. They have done a really good job this summer. We are prepared. It is up to us to compete well now. I feel more confident this year, because we are so well prepared. I wasn't mentally prepared in the past. I have not wrestled my best at the world level. Hopefully, I do that this year. If I wrestle the way I am capable of wrestling, the outcome will take care of itself. I am ready to scrap. I am excited. I am ready to reach my potential."

Joe Seay, U.S. World Team Coach

"With these three athletes, we have two experienced wrestlers and a phenomenal talent. I think they are great. Now they have to perform. We have done all the work in training. We are prepared. The problem is our mindset and our tactics. These three know what happened to our guys today. I am confident in all of these guys. But it is out of our hands as coaches. The work has been done by them. The mindset must come from them. If they don't have it, they won't reach their goals. Now is the time to perform. Every one of these guys have a chance to do well. We are in a situation where we need this group to do well. They are perfectly capable of winning. I feel good about it. You can't have mental lapses and you have to find a way to win. I have a feeling that tomorrow will be the opposite of today. That is how I feel."

Kevin Jackson, USA Wrestling National Freestyle Coach

"The bottom line is that draw is what it is. We have to wrestle accordingly. The draw doesn't make you win. You win or lose the tournament on the mat. We look at this draw as positive. These guys all made weight and are ready. All this tells is who we have in the first round. Hopefully, we wrestle to our performance. After a day like today, we are looking to that second group. It is the opposite of last year, where we had a great first day, then slipped on the second day. We need to finish strong. This is a talented group of wrestlers with no titles. They want to win. Let's see how they do. I believe they can do better than that first group."

"We are disappointed in the performance of the first group. We can't let it get to our second group. We will see what happens. Our confidence hasn't waivered. We can still win. Cuba and Russia had a great start today. We will do what we can to catch these guys. Our guys have to wrestle well. When you go to war, there are casualities. We knew that going in. We didn't expect it to happen to all three today. Hopefully we won't have any more."
