U.S. wrestlers Thompson, Wong, Murata weigh in and receive draws at the World Championships



Three U.S. wrestlers weighed in and received their draws on Tuesday for the World Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

The final U.S. men's freestyle wrestler, Tolly Thompson (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Sunkist Kids) weighed in at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

The first two U.S. women's freestyle wrestlers also weighed in: Jenny Wong (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. and Stephanie Murata, Colorado Springs, Colo. (Sunkist Kids) at 51 kg/112.25 lbs.

Thompson, who is wrestling in his first World Championships, drew Aydin Polatci of Turkey in his first round match on Wednesday. Polatci was a 2004 Olympic bronze medalist, and a 2002 World bronze medalist.

Wong drew Dashdavaa Baasanjargal of Mongolia in her opening match. Wong was a 2003 World bronze medalist and is competing in her second World meet. Baasanjargal was third in the 2005 Asian Championships

Murata will wrestle Emese Szabo of Hungary in the first round. Murata, a veteran of many past World Championships, is a past World silver medalist. Szabo is competing in her second World meet, but has not yet placed in the top 10.

All three weight divisions will begin and be completed on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
