Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to Gary Abbott at gabbott@usawrestling.org

Mark Budd (Orville, Ohio/Univ. of Buffalo) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for the week of December 6-12.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.

Budd, a junior who competes at 133 pounds, pulled off a major upset in a dual meet against Edinboro Univ. Budd scored a late takedown in sudden death overtime to defeat No 1 ranked Shawn Bunch of Edinboro, 6-4.

Budd was unranked in the NWCA/Intermat Individual rankings going into the dual meet, but moved up to No. 19 in this weeks poll. Budd improved to 19-3 for the season.

It was Budd's first victory over Bunch in four meetings, with Bunch winning three matches during the 2004-05 season. Budd was named the EWL Wrestler of the Week for his victory. It was the first time in Buffalo's Div. I history that a wrestler from the team defeated a No. 1 ranked wrestler.

Edinboro won the dual meet, 20-13.
