Malacek Tabbed Wartburg Wrestling Head Assistant Coach

Malacek Tabbed Wartburg Wrestling Head Assistant Coach August 3, 2000 Waverly (Iowa)--Former NCAA Division I All-American wrestler Dave Malacek has been named Wartburg College's first-ever full time assistant coach by athletic director Gary Grace and head wrestling coach Jim Miller. Malacek, 29, will be the number one assistant coach in the Knight wrestling program and will be in charge of recruiting and administrative duties as well as working with the 2001 NCAA Division III National Wrestling Championships. Malacek and Miller first worked together while Miller was an assistant coach with the University of Northern Iowa program. Malacek placed fourth in the Division I national tournament for the Panthers in 1994, a two-time Olympic trial qualifier in 1992 and 1996 and a two-time state high school champion for Osage. "This is a dream come true for me." Malacek said. "It will be great working with coach Miller in the Wartburg program. I want to see our wrestlers succeed not only on the mat but also in their education and careers." Malacek spent two years as head coach at Xavier (Cedar Rapids) where his final squad finished 7-4 in duals and sent two wrestlers to the 2000 Iowa High School Wrestling Championships including Mike Shedek, a state champion. He was also a head coach at Alta-Aurelia for two years and a volunteer coach at Buena Vista.
