World Champion Joe Warren honored during Michigan-Michigan State football game

World Champion Joe Warren was honored on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Michigan-Michigan State football game in front of 100,000-plus fans at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Warren, who won the World Greco-Roman title at 60 kg/132 pounds on Sept. 25 in Guangzhou, China, was honored during the first half of the football game.

Warren (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) was an All-American for Michigan in 2000. He became just the fifth U.S. Greco-Roman wrestler to win a World Championship.

Warren, a native of Grand Rapids, Mich., capped a strong season with his World title. He also won the U.S. World Team Trials and captured a gold medal at the Pan American Championships.

Warren competed in the World Championships for the second time. He placed ninth in the World in 2005.

Warren helped the U.S. win two overall gold medals at the World Championships for the first time since 1999. Three days after Warren's win, Bill Zadick (Colorado Springs, Colo./Gator WC) won a World title in freestyle wrestling at 66 kg/145.5 pounds.
