Seton Hall wrestling program in jeopardy

It has recently come to my attention that the wrestling program at Seton Hall is about to be eliminated. Their quota numbers are not in line and apparently the Head coach, Joe Ryan, has been told that the wrestling program will be dropped. An announcement is expected on, Friday March 22, 2001 unless we can do something to stop it. Here is you chance to help. The time to act is now, before that possibility becomes reality. Please send a short e-mail to the following individuals at Seton Hall. President of Seton Hall - Msgr. Robert Sheeran sheeraro@shu.edu Athletic Director - Jeff Fogelson fogelsje@shu.edu Associate Director of Athletics - Sue Regan regansue@shu.edu Mel Shay - Acting Provost shaymelj@shu.edu Here are a couple of points you may want to make in your e-mail to them. 1) Help may be on its way - a new Assistant Secretary of Education in change of the OCR will be appointed soon and it is likely that this person will bring a much more reasonable approach to compliance with Title IX than the previous administration. 2) There are other ways to comply with Title IX other than just meeting the quota numbers. 3) Many sports at Seton Hall lose money, why is the wrestling team being dropped and not any women's teams. Don't use money as an excuse to drop the wrestling team when the real reason is your desire to meet the Title IX quota. Thanks for your help, Eric LeSher President Iowans Against Quotas
