Brandon Sorensen (Cedar Falls, Iowa/Cedar Valley Mat Club) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Oct. 27-Nov. 2.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Sorensen was named Outstanding Wrestler after winning USA Wrestling’s PreSeason Folkstyle Nationals on Oct. 31 at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls.

Sorensen won the title in the High School division at 119 pounds. In the finals, he scored a 14-3 major decision over Eric Hughes of Bolivar in Missouri. Sorensen was a Cadet Nationals runner-up in freestyle last summer.

Sorensen is a freshman at Denver (Iowa) High School.
