Chas Betts (St. Michael, Minn./Minnesota Storm/USOEC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 24-30.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Betts won a silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Haparanda Cup in Haparanda, Sweden, on Nov. 28-29. He placed second at 84 kg/185 lbs.
It was the second weekend in a row that Betts won an international silver medal. He was also second at the Vantaa Cup in Finland last weekend. He won the title at the New York AC International two weeks ago.
Betts, a member of the 2009 U.S. World Team, was defeated in the championship finals at Haparanda by Armen Grigoryan of Russia, 1-0, 2-0.
He opened with a victory over Fisnik Zahiti of Sweden, 0-1, 1-0, 1-0, then stopped American Aaron Sieracki (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army) in the semifinals, 2-0, 1-0.
Betts wrestles for the U.S. Olympic Education Center program at Northern Michigan University.
