Largest Tour of Wrestling Legends Pay Visit to 2001 World Cup in Baltimore

NEW YORK, NY - Former Olympic Wrestling Champions Kevin Jackson and Kendall Cross and former World Champion Zeke Jones are just three of many American wrestling greats who are participating in the unprecedented nation-wide Tour of Legends, which makes its fourth stop May 6 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Baltimore Arena for the World Cup of Freestyle Wrestling. The first 50 kids on the floor for the Baltimore Tour of Legends clinic will receive an autographed photo of the seven 2000 Olympic Medallists and two 2000 World Medallists, while getting a chance to meet and speak with Jackson, Cross and Jones. The Tour of Legends is visiting major wrestling championships and events across the country in a six-month national promotional tour celebrating the sport of wrestling in anticipation of the 2001 World Championships for Wrestling, coming this September 26-29 in New York City. The four-day event, which will boast over 600 competitors representing nearly 50 countries, will feature both male and female freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Countries with strong teams expected to participate, in addition to the all-star team from the United States, include Russia, Iran, Turkey, Ukraine, Korea and China. Nancy Schultz, whose late husband Dave was a World and Olympic Champion, serves as the Tour's official spokesperson. Schultz runs the enormously successful Dave Schultz Wrestling Club, which provides amateur wrestlers with funds, facilities and coaches. While in Baltimore, the Tour will feature three major wrestling stars that have had a significant impact on the sport. Jackson, the current USA Wrestling National Freestyle Coach, was the 1992 Olympic Champion and is widely considered one of the greatest freestyle wrestlers in American history. A 1996 Olympic Champion, Cross is a consultant at Merrill Lynch, and serves as a coach with the Dave Schultz Wrestling Club. His resume boasts a myriad of historic wrestling successes including World Cup championships, Pan American championships, National championships and NCAA Championships as a member of the Oklahoma State Cowboys from 1988-92. Jones captured the 1991 World Championship and was a silver medallist in the 1992 Olympics. Baltimore is one of 10 stops the tour will make en route to New York City for the World Championships. The Tour has already paid visits to Iowa City, Chicago and Las Vegas. Upcoming sites include Dayton, OH, in early June for the Women's Jr. Nationals and Cincinnati, OH for the World Team Trials in late June. The Dayton stop has special significance since the upcoming World Championships will be the first to include the women's competition in conjunction with the men's freestyle and Greco-Roman competitions. Tickets for the World Championships at Madison Square Garden are on sale now, with single session ticket prices starting as low as $10. All-session passes are priced as low as $99 for the eight total sessions, with family packages starting at just $308. Individual session tickets can be purchased through TicketMaster by calling 1-212-307-7171. All-session passes, Gold Passes and Group Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-866-NYC-2001
