Big 12 All-Stars defeat Korea, 30-9, in Norman, Okla., May 21



BIG 12 ALL-STARS DOWN KOREA, 30-9, MAY 21, CLAIMING EIGHT OF 10 MATCHES IN NORMAN, OKLA.

NORMAN, Okla. - The Big 12 All-Stars wrestling team, led by Oklahoma Head Assistant Coach Chuck Barbee, won eight of 10 matches to defeat the Korean University National Team, 30-9, today at the OU Field House. Highlighting the match were pins by Oklahoma's Witt Durden and Michael Lightner and Oklahoma State's Reggie Wright.

The Korean team got off to an early start, winning the dual's first match before the Big 12 All-Stars claimed the next six. Nebraska's Todd Beckerman scored five-second period points to pull away from Na Dae-Young for a 7-2 victory. The Big 12 followed with pins by Durden (5:00), Lightner (5:34) and Wright (:45).

NU's Bryan Snyder won 10-4 at 156.2 pounds and Joe Heskett of Iowa State claimed 4-1 decision at 165. Cheon Jong-Min recorded Korea's second victory at 173.8 pounds in a 4-3 come-from-behind win against Missouri's John Kopnisky. The Big 12 countered with Nebraska's NCAA champion Brad Vering scoring a 4-0 shutout at 198 pounds. Missouri heavyweight Chad Hertzog won the dual's final match by injury default

A second dual with the Korean National Team will take place on Tuesday, May 23. The second dual will feature the Korean team against standouts from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Action begins at 6 p.m. at the OU Field House.
