Adam Coon named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for July 17-23

Adam Coon (Fowlerville, Mich./Team Michigan) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for July 17-23.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Coon became just the fourth Junior wrestler to capture a Triple Crown after winning USA Wrestling Junior Nationals Greco-Roman and freestyle titles this past week in Fargo, N.D.

Coon won Greco and freestyle titles at 285 pounds after winning a Junior title at USA Wrestling’s Folkstyle Nationals earlier this year in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

Coon captured a Triple Crown after sweeping Indiana’s Donte Winfield 1-0, 1-0 in the 285 Junior freestyle finals on Saturday afternoon.

The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Coon, a top college prospect in wrestling and football, won a Cadet World title in freestyle last year.
