BURNABY MOUNTAIN, B.C., Canada – 2012 World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe (Colorado Springs,, Colo./Sunkist Kids) won a gold medal at the Hargobind International at Simon Fraser University on Friday.

Lampe won three bouts on the way to her gold medal. She defeated Canadian Jasmine Mian of the Dinos WC in the championship finals.

Lampe opened with a victory over Natasha Kramble of Canada in the quarterfinals. She then defeated two-time Junior World champion and talented American Victoria Anthony of the Sunkist Kids in the semifinals.

Lampe moved up a weight to 51 kg/112.25 lbs. for the 2012 World Championships in Sherwood Park, Canada in September, where she won a bronze medal. She dropped back to her normal weight class to compete at the Hargobind International. She is a U.S. Olympic Training Center Resident athlete.

Anthony bounced back from her loss to Lampe in the semifinals to win a bronze medal. She ended the tournament with a 4-1 record including two pins.

Anthony opened with victories over Canadian Maddison Parks of the London WC and Cintron Sheykaliz of Puerto Rico. After losing to Lampe, she went 2-0 in the wrestlebacks, defeating Parks for a second time, then pinning Canadian Natasha Kramble of the Saskatoon WC in the bronze-medal match.

Anthony is a student at host Simon Fraser University, where she was a 2011 WCWA college national champion. She took the 2011-12 season off from school to pursue a spot on the U.S. Olympic Team.

The men’s freestyle competition was held on Saturday. We will report complete results when they are received.
