Gray won three matches on the way to her title. She defeated Dalma Caneva of Italy in the gold-medal finals. Caneva was a European Cadet champion and two-time European Junior bronze medalist.

Gray’s first win of the day came against France’s Cynthia Vescan, a 2012 Olympian and three-time Junior World silver medalist.

Gray was competing up a weight from 67 kg/147.5 lbs., the weight where she won her Senior World medals. She won the University World title this year competing up at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. She is also a past Junior World champion.

Winning a bronze medal in the men’s freestyle tournament was Mark McKnight (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) at 55 kg/121 lbs. McKnight had a competitive weight class and only lost one match during the day.

McKnight was a college wrestling star for Penn State and Buffalo during his career.

Competing in a five-athlete roundrobin, and taking one of the two bronze medals in the weight class, was U.S. Greco-Roman wrestler Shaun Scott (Millersville, Pa.) at 84 kg/185 lbs. Scott had a 1-3 record in his competition.
