Kellen Russell named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week

Kellen Russell (Ann Arbor, Mich./New York AC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Russell won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the Guelph Open on Sunday in Guelph, Canada.

Russell went 3-0 at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. He stopped Canadian Ryan Weicker of Brock in the finals. Other wins were against Canadians Brad Trimble of Brock and Drew Belanger of the Bears.

Russell trains with the Cliff Keen Wrestling Club at the University of Michigan.

Russell was a two-time NCAA champion and three-time All-American for Michigan.
