Weekly NCAA Division I, II and III wrestling award standings released

INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA has released the latest weekly standings for the 2013 NCAA Most Dominant Wrestler Award and most falls and tech falls in Divisions I, II and III.

A minimum of 15 matches are required to be eligible for the Most Dominant Wrestler standings this week. That required match total will increase by one per week until 18 matches is reached. For match results to be counted towards any of the award standings they must come against opponents within the same division.

Logan Stieber of Ohio State has accumulated a cross-divisional leading 5.6 points on average for the Most Dominant Wrestler standings. In Division I, the 133-pounder has a .50 advantage over the next highest wrestler, Dustin Kilgore (Kent State), with an average of 5.0968.

Carl Broghammer of Upper Iowa University held onto his lead in Division II with an average of five points at 197 pounds. Broghammer is trailed by Shamus O’Grady (St. Cloud State) whose average is 4.75 points at 174 pounds.

Two grapplers from the state of Wisconsin have vied back and forth for the top position in Division III. This week Nazar Kulchytskyy (Wisconsin-Oshkosh) surpassed last week’s leader Jordan Koranda of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for the divisional lead. At 157 pounds, Kulchytskyy averages 5.375 points while Koranda has a clip of 4.7727.
At 197 pounds, Kilgore leads all divisions in pins with 16 in a total time of 38:27. Kilgore holds a three-pin lead over the next-highest Division I grappler for the second week in a row, Kyle Dake (Cornell). Following Dake is A.J. Schopp of Edinboro with 12 falls.

Two in Division II have posted nine falls, but Jeffrey Vesta of Newberry holds an advantage after achieving those wins in 24:59.

The second wrestler with 16 pins is Koranda (Wisconsin-Stevens Point) in Division III. Koranda’s cumulative time is 43:22 and he is trailed by Kulchytskyy and Cody Lovejoy (Ohio Northern) who have each posted 15 falls.

David Taylor of Penn State remains the Division I leader in tech falls with a total of eight as of February 3. Taylor is followed by Cornell’s Nahshon Garrett (125 poundss) who owns seven.

The lone leader in Division II tech falls is Dylan D’Urso of Mercyhurst for the third consecutive week, with six at 133 pounds.

Ohio Northern’s Kyle Kwiat is the cross-divisional leader in tech falls with 14, six more than any other grappler and eight more than anyone in Division III. Kwiat posted three tech falls since last week at 174 pounds.
