USA goes 1-1 in FILA Junior Greco-Roman duals during training in Austria

A team of U.S. Greco-Roman athletes from the FILA Junior level competed in a pair of dual meets during their training camp in Austria this week.

The United States won all 10 matches in a dual meet victory over a combined team from Austria and Switzerland by a dominant 35-6 margin. Scoring pins for the USA were Hayden Tuma and Chris Caldwell, both at 60 kg/132 lbs. Adding a technical fall was Mike Mioni at 60 kg/132 lbs.

The next dual meet included five matches, as Georgia defeated the United States, 14-4. Scoring a victory for Team USA was Isaiah Varona at 55 kg/121 lbs.

The U.S. team also won the team title at the Austrian Junior Greco-Roman last weekend, and remained in Austria for training.

“Isaiah Varona went 2-0 for the night in the dual meets! Also, we avenged some loses from the tournament which was very encouraging,” said U.S. coach Rob Hermann. “The trip was a great success and there were no lack of matches or training.”
