2000 Kids Greco-Roman National Championships results from Waterloo, Iowa, July 6

Greco-Roman champion crowned at National Kids Wrestling Championships in Waterloo, Iowa, July 6 Greco-Roman champions were crowned at three age divisions at the 2000 USA Wrestling National Kids Wrestoling Championships, at Young Arena in Waterloo, Iowa, July 6. Competition was held at the Midget (9-10 years), Novice (11-12 years) and Schoolboy/girl (13-14 years) divisions. Also available to capture this weekend in the USA Wrestling Kids Triple Crown. To win, an athlete must win USA Wrestling national titles Folkstyle Championships were held inm Topeka, Kan. in April. Going into the Greco-Roman event, 14 athletes in the field are eligible for the Triple Crown. At the end of the Greco-Roman finals, 11 still remain eligible. Those still with a chance to win the Triple Crown include Midget wrestlers David Taylor of Evanston, Wyoming (60), Riley Adamson of Albuquerque, New Mexico (65), Matt Gille of Luxemburg, Wisconsin (75) and Atticus Disney of Andover, Kansas (120). Adamson was a 1999 Kids Triple Crown Winner. Novice wrestlers still eligible are Jonathan Reader of Lapeer, Michigan (90) and Mike May of LeSuer, Minnesota (140++). And Schoolboy/girl wrestlers still in the running are Charles Knox, Jr. of Wichita, Kansas (90), Angel Escobedo of Griffith, Indiana (95), Brent Metcalf of Davison, Michigan (115), Brandon Mason of Shenandoah, Iowa (130), Patrick Bond of Chesapeake, Virginia (150) and Kyle Massey of Blaine, Minnesota (160+). No wrestler has ever won the Triple Crown twice. Those still in contention for the 2000 Triple Crown are 1999 winners Riley Adamson and Angel Escobedo. Only two wrestlers won the Triple Crown in 1997, eight in 1998 and 10 in 1999. A total of 511 athletes entered the Greco-Roman competition.
