OU Wrestling Signs Two in Early Period

NORMAN, Okla. Beau DeArmon and Brandt Ward, two of the state of Oklahoma's premier wrestlers, signed national letters of intent to compete at the University of Oklahoma announced Sooner Head Coach Jack Spates. DeArmon, who competes at Tulsa East Central, is a state champion and a two-time state runner-up. He has compiled an 85-7 record and is currently ranked as high as second in the nation at 135 pounds. DeArmon competed in Russia last summer and compiled a 10-0 record. Expected to contend for the starting slot at 141-pounds next season, DeArmon chose OU over Oklahoma State, Minnesota and Oregon among others. Ward, a Blackwell product, claimed the class 3A 189-pound state title last season. In the title match, he defeated two-time high school All-American David Tyner. Ward is currently ranked seventh nationally. He chose the Sooners over Oklahoma State and Oregon. "We are very excited to sign two wrestlers of this caliber from the state of Oklahoma," said Spates. "Both Beau DeArmon and Brandt Ward are fierce competitors. They are outstanding students and young men, as well as great wrestlers. We're proud to welcome them as members of the Sooner family."
