Penn State wrestling matches to be streamed live to the internet and aired live on radio

University Park, Pa., Dec. 7, 2000 - Penn State has reached an agreement with local AM radio station WMAJ to broadcast all of the Nittany Lion's wrestling matches this season and provide a direct feed of those broadcasts to Penn State's official website, "We're thrilled that WMAJ has come on board to cover our wrestling team," head coach Troy Sunderland said. "And, in particular the live broadcasting through our website will be a great addition for our fans all over the country." Through the new agreement, Penn State wrestling fans and alumni across the country will be able to tune into Nittany Lion action live through their home computers. Long time voice of Penn State wrestling, Jeff Byers, will bring fans the action. His call may be accessed on the sites front page. WMAJ (1350 AM) and Penn State student station WKPS (90.7 FM) will also carry the matches over the airways in the local area. WMAJ will carry approximately half the matches live and the other half on a tape delay basis, while WKPS will carry live any matches WMAJ cannot due to previous commitments. The broadcast schedule is likely to include the Cliff Keen/NWCA National Team Duals in January and Penn State's matches at both the Big Ten and NCAA Championships.
