USA Wrestling Grappling & Beach Wrestling Events

USA Wrestling understands the importance of developing all styles of wrestling, and is committed to the development and success of Grappling and Beach wrestling.

Grappling has emerged onto the international scene over the last two years, with competitors coming from wrestling, jiu-jitsu and judo backgrounds. USA Wrestling proudly hosted the 2009 Grappling World Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in 2009. The United States strong wrestling history gives American grapplers a decided advantage in the No-Gi category. At the 2009 Grappling World Championships, Team USA won both Men's and Women's No-Gi. World Team Trials for grappling are held in late October.

Beach wrestling was introduced as an international style by FILA, the international governing body for wrestling, as another avenue for athletic competition. Beach Wrestling (or sand wrestling) has been a consistent style of wrestling internationally for centuries. Combining elements of all wrestling styles, including sumo, Beach events have drawn walk-up crowds when partnered with other sporting events, helping expand the reach of wrestling through non-traditional venues.
