JOB OPPORTUNITY: USA Wrestling Communications Intern

USA Wrestling, the national governing body for wrestling in the United States, is seeking a qualified and motivated intern to work at its Colorado Springs, Colo. national headquarters in the Communications Department.


The internship is a full-time position, with 40 hours per week at the national headquarters. Additional overtime would have to be approved in advance. The pay rate is $12.32/hour.


Candidates do not have to be currently enrolled at a college to apply. However, this internship could be used by students who wish to use this to fulfill academic requirements, depending upon the specifics of their academic programs.


This internship is scheduled from January 10, 2022 through May 27, 2020, but this could be adjusted based upon the availability of qualified applicants.

COMMUNICATIONS INTERN


The intern will assist on numerous communication and editorial projects and activities, including:

1) Writing and editing for USA Wrestling communications platforms

2) Assisting with the copy creation for USA Wrestling’s web page - TheMat.com

3) Assist with USA Wrestling’s communications use of various social media, including the ability to produce photography, videos and graphics, as necessary.

4) Promoting and marketing the events and activities of USA Wrestling to the press and general public, through press releases, media contacts and other strategies.

5) Handling requests from journalists and media outlets concerning the events, activities and athletes involved with USA Wrestling. Contacting local and national media with story ideas on wrestling.

6) Creating biographies and compiling statistics on the top athletes in the nation on all age levels, for use in communications activities, as well as other administrative duties.

7) Developing new ideas on ways to communicate information and promote the sport of wrestling to the public and the media.

8) Assisting on any other projects which will help forward the goals and missions of USA Wrestling, as determined by the supervisor and/or the Executive Director of USA Wrestling.


Experience and skills desired include writing, editing, interpersonal communications, computer literacy, photography, videography, graphics and design, time management and other communications activities.


The intern will report to Gary Abbott, Director of Communications/Special Projects for USA Wrestling.
