How to Make an Olympic or World Team
U.S. Olympic Team
The U.S. Olympic Team is determined by placings at the U.S. Olympic Trials event every four years. Placings at this event determine not only the Olympic Team, but also the USA Wrestling Senior National Team for the year.
Senior World Team
The Senior World Team is determined by placings at the Senior World Team Trials (also known as Final X) in non-Olympic years. Placings at this event determine not only the Senior World Team, but also the USA Wrestling Senior National Team for the year.
U23 World Team
All Styles: The highest ranked, age-eligible athlete from Senior National Team has the opportunity to represent Team USA as the U23 World Team Member. If no eligible National Team athletes accepts the opportunity, the weight will be contested at the U23 World Team Trials event. The highest placing athlete in the weight at this event will be the representative.
U20 World Team
Men's Freestyle: The U20 Men’s Freestyle World Team Trials is held in two stages. The winner of the 2023 UWW U20 National Championships will earn an automatic berth to the best-of-three wrestle-off series against the champion from the World Team Trials challenge tournament. The winner of the World Team Trials challenge tournament will represent Team USA in the World Championships.
Greco-Roman: The U20 Greco-Roman World Team Trials is held in two stages. The winner of the 2023 UWW U20 National Championships will earn an automatic berth to the best-of-three wrestle-off series against the champion from the World Team Trials challenge tournament. The winner of the World Team Trials challenge tournament will represent Team USA in the World Championships.
Women's Freestyle: The U20 World/Pan American Team Trials event is held at Women’s Nationals. The individual winner of each weight will be the UWW U20 World and Pan American Team Member.
U17 World Team
Men: A U17 World/Pan American Team Trials event is held each year. The individual winner of each style, followed by rank order, at the UWW U17 World/Pan American Trials will be the UWW U17 World and Pan American Team Member in each style.
Women: The U17 World/Pan American Team Trials event is held at Women’s Nationals. The individual winner of each weight will be the UWW U17 World and Pan American Team Member.
