RUSE, Bulgaria – Three U.S. stars won their semifinal bouts and advanced to Saturday’s gold-medal finals at the Dan Kolov International, a UWW Ranking Tournament.

2018 World bronze medalist Tamrya Mensah-Stock (Colorado Springs, Colo./TMWC/OTC) scored a dominant 1-0 technical fall over 2017 U23 World bronze medalist Adela Hanzlickova of Czechia in the semifinals.

Mensah-Stock will battle 2017 Asian Junior silver medalist Bakhtigul Baltaniyazov of Uzbekistan in the finals. Baltaniyazov upset 2018 World champion Alla Cherkasova of Ukraine in her semifinals.

Mensah-Stock has been dominant this tournament, scoring three technical falls and a pin on the way to securing her finals berth.

2012 Olympic champion and four-time World champion Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Nebraska WTC) continued his strong wrestling at 74 kg/163 lbs., defeating 2018 Takhti Cup champion Ali Umarpashaev of Bulgaria in the semifinals, 7-2. Burroughs scored two takedowns, forced two stepouts and received a point on a failed challenge.

He will face a familiar foe in the finals, 2014 World bronze medalist Bekzod Abdurakhmanov of Uzbekistan. Burroughs has the lead in this series, including a win at the 2017 World Championships, but Abdurakhmanov had a repechage win over Burroughs at the 2016 Olympic Games. Abdurakhmanov was an All-American for Clarion University in the USA and trains here often.

Burroughs won a big second-round match over rival World champion and Olympic medalist Frank Chamizo of Italy, 9-2. He won his opening bout, 9-0 over Jitender of India, and also won his quarterfinals by injury default.

At 65 kg/143 in men’s freestyle, Jordan Oliver (Ithaca, N.Y./Sunkist Kids/Finger Lakes RTC) also powered his way to the finals, beating 2014 World University champion Selahattin Kilicsallayan of Turkey in the semifinals, 9-2. Oliver continued his mastery on his feet in this match, getting four takedowns in the bout.

Oliver’s finals opponent will be 2018 World silver medalist Bajrang of India.

Oliver won three bouts on the way to the semifinals, two by technical fall and a decision.

With the finals set, two U.S. wrestlers who lost to Oliver have earned repechage bouts. Bernard Futrell has the first repechage bout against Agustin Destribats of Argentina, and the winner advances to face Evan Henderson. The winner of Henderson’s bout will reach a bronze-medal match.

At 68 kg/149.5 lbs., Alexandria Glaude, who lost to Mensah-Stock, qualified for repechage against Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus of Poland.

The finals will be held Saturday live on TrackWrestling.
