Welcome to USA Women's Freestyle Wrestling Program,

It has been an exciting time to be a part of the Women’s Freestyle Program. The past few years have been historic, marked by outstanding performances across all age groups.

The opportunities for girls and women in wrestling within the USA have exploded in the last decade. Currently, 46 states have sanctioned high school girls' wrestling, with one additional state holding emerging status. Additionally, the number of collegiate opportunities for women’s wrestling continues to grow, with nearly 200 programs across NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA divisions.

In 2024, the Olympic Games in Paris showcased the incredible talent of our athletes. Our American women delivered yet another record-breaking performance that inspires us all. Amit Elor became the youngest American wrestler to win Olympic Gold, while Helen Maroulis secured another Olympic medal, making her only the second U.S. wrestler to achieve three career Olympic medals, following USA Wrestling President Bruce Baumgartner. Notably, Sarah Hildebrandt became the fourth female Olympic champion in U.S. history, and Kennedy Blades, at just 20 years old, brought home an Olympic silver medal from Paris.

Furthermore, we are proud to highlight a significant milestone: our team’s victory in the U23 World Team Title, the first time the USA has won a world team title in the Olympic era of women’s wrestling! This historic achievement serves as a testament to the growth and strength of our program.

As we turn our attention to the LA 2028 Quad, there is nothing more thrilling than having the biggest sporting event in the world in our own backyard. The excitement surrounding the games in Los Angeles comes with a tremendous responsibility. To ensure another outstanding Olympic performance in 2028, we must all be aligned and working collaboratively. Team USA is strong, and we have an abundance of opportunities for young female athletes at the high school and collegiate levels. With many talented and inspiring athletes coming through the system, it’s crucial that we unite in our efforts. Success will not happen by accident; it will happen because we are committed to carrying the plan forward together.

We look forward to seeing all of you along this journey. Our team is here to help you understand our development process and welcome you, no matter your role—athlete, parent, coach, or administrator. We need everyone on board, working toward the same goal.

For more information on all age group opportunities, please read the “Pathways to Excellence.”
