The USA is sending 15 Cadet and Junior-aged women’s freestyle athletes to the Berlin Open in Berlin, Germany, with action set to take place on Saturday.

Of the 15 athletes, five are past World medalists at the U15 and Cadet age-groups.

Leading the way is two-time Cadet World medalist Sterling Dias at 46 kg. Dias won bronze at the 2018 Cadet World Championships, and this summer she improved upon that with a silver-medal finish at the 2019 Cadet World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Also earning medals in Sofia was Skylar Hattendorf and Kylie Welker, who will compete at 57 kg and 61 kg, respectively. Hattendorf claimed a silver medal in her World Championships debut, while Welker scored a bronze medal.

2017 Cadet World bronze medalist Tiare Ikei will be in the mix for the USA at 53 kg. While Ikei did not compete at a World Championships this summer, she put together an impressive season, which included a 2019 Senior U.S. Open title.

Ikei and Welker are EAP athletes training at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The final World medalist competing for USA this weekend is Alex Szkotnicki, who won gold at the inaugural U15 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary. She also competed at the Cadet World Championships in July.

Several other talented athletes, including World and Pan American team members, will make the trip this weekend as well. Action starts Saturday morning in Berlin. USA Wrestling will update as results are made available.
