76 kg quarterfinals – Kennedy Blades (USA) dec. Milaimys Marin Portillo (Cuba), 4-3

Marin on shot clock and can’t score, 1-0 for Blades, which is the score at the break.

Marin forces a step out to tie it at 1-1 and have criteria. A Blades double leg secures a step out, 2-1 for Blades. Blades gets a counter exposure for a 4-1 lead. Marin scores a takedown late to make it 4-3, but no more scoring. Kennedy Blades to the semifinals after 4-3 win.

97 kg MFS quarterfinals – Kyle Snyder (USA) pin Arturo Silot Torres (Cuba), 3:36

Silot put on shot clock and can’t score, 1-0 for Snyder. That’s the score at the break, 1-0 Snyder.

At start of second period, hip toss to a pin for Snyder quickly, at 3:36. Snyder to the semifinals.

Blades scores the first takedown, 2-0. Blades tosses Axente for four points, 6-0. Blades up 6-0 at break

Blades hits a big back souplesse for five points and closes out the tech fall, 11-0

97 kg MFS preliminary – Kyle Snyder  (USA) vs. Awusayiman Habila (China), 9-5

Snyder gets a four point throw, but China challenges and wins. It goes four to Habila, 4-0. At the break, it’s Habila 4-0

Snyder gets takedown, trailing 4-2 now. Add a Snyder step out, 4-3. Snyder gets a leg attack takedown to lead 5-4. Snyder powers for a step out, 6-4. A Snyder low single gets another takedown, 8-4. On the edge, Habila gets a step out, 8-5. China challenges but loses, 9-5. Snyder onto the quarterfinals.

We already know Kyle Dake’s bronze medal opponent will be Hetag Cabalov of Serbia. His opponent for the repechage round this morning, Geandry Garzon of Cuba, did not weigh in. Cabalov was a World champion for Russia, and now a World medalist for Serbia. Will be a good match for sure.
