Lehigh dominates as it hosts the Sheridan Tournament
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - No. 20 Lehigh dominated its opponents at the Sheridan Tournament, which it hosted at Stabler Arena on Friday.
Four Lehigh wrestlers claimed individual titles, defeating other Div. I opponents in the finals, sophomore Ryan Crookham (133), senior Malyke Hines (149), sophomore Rylan Rogers (174) and junior J.T. Davis (197).
In the finals, Crookham stopped Indiana’s Angelo Rini, 10-5. Hines edged Lehigh teammate Kelvin Griffin, 2-1. Rogers scored an 11-2 major decision over Brown’s Conner O’Donnell. Davis edged Indiana’s Gabe Solars, 7-6.
Competing unattached, Lehigh senior Max Brignola defeated Indiana’s Tyler Lillard, 8-5.
At two weight classes, Lehigh had both finalists and chose to have a no contest. At 125, junior Sheldon Seymour and freshman Mason Ziegler did not competed. At 157, freshmen Logan Rozynski and Griffin Gonzalez did not wrestle.
At 285, unattached Owen Trephan was the champion, beating Indiana’s Jacob Bullock, 4-2. Trephan, who competed at NC State, has announced he will complete his career at Lehigh.
Other individual champions were Kyren Butler of Virginia (141) and Brian Soldano of Rutgers (184). Butler scored a takedown in sudden victory to stop Henry Porter of Indiana, 4-1. Soladano pinned Virginia’s Griffin Gammell in 1:09.

Appalachian State tops at seven weights at 91st Wilkes Open
WILKES BARRE, Pa. – The nation’s oldest college holiday Open event, the 91st Wilkes Open, was dominated by NCAA Div. I power Appalachian State, which had four individual champions and had three weight classes with no contest in the finals, as both finalists were from App State.
Known as the Rose Bowl of Wrestling, the Wilkes Open attracted teams from all three divisions of the NCAA, plus athletes from Regional Training Centers, as well as a few high school stars.
Champions for App State were Chad Bellis (133), Kaden Keiser (149), William Miller (165) and Carson Floyd (197).
Bellis scored an 11-3 major decision over Blake Reihner of Davidson. Floyd stopped Alvernia’s Isaac Kassis in a 15-0 technical fall. Keiser and Miller both beat opponents from the Pennsylvania RTC. Keiser had a 17-5 major decision over Jackson Polo, while Miller beat Sean Seefeldt, 8-5
The three finals with no contest between Appalachian State teammates were 157, 184 and 285 pounds.
The other individual college champion was Nathan Lackman of Alveria, a 4-2 winner of unattached Sam Becker of Penn State.
Two nationally ranked high school stars competing unattached were champions, Shamus Regan of Wyoming Seminary at 125 and Billy Dekraker of Blair Academy at 141. Regan scored in sudden victory overtime to beat Bryson Terrell of App State, 6-4. Dekraker beat unattached Tyler Adams of the Naval Academy Prep School, 7-3.
