Men’s freestyle draw set at Grand Prix of Spain with five Americans in the mix

by Richard Immel, USA Wrestling

MADRID, Spain – Five American men’s freestyle wrestlers have received their draws for Sunday’s Grand Prix of Spain competition.

2023 U.S. World Team member and reigning Pan American champion Chance Marsteller headlines the U.S. bunch. He will wrestle a five-man round-robin bracket to decide the 86 kg champion. Among his quartet of opponents are two-time Pan American medalist Alex Moore of Canada and 2024 Henri Deglane silver medalist Gabriel Iglesias Ramos of Spain.

Marsteller is a considerable favorite at 86 kg. He has medaled at seven-straight international events outside of the 2023 World Championships. So far in 2024, he grabbed bronze at the Zagreb Open, in addition to his Pan American gold.

The other four Americans in action have favorable openers against opponents with minimal international credentials.

2023 U.S. Senior Nationals champion Quincy Monday begins his day against Nico Zard of Malta at 74 kg. 2019 U20 World Team member Yahya Thomas has drawn Saba Bolaghi of Germany at 70 kg.

Also in the mix are Kennedy Monday and Lennox Wolak at 79 kg. Monday will face 2021 U20 European bronze medalist Richard Schroeder of Germany, while Wolack opens against Mateusz Pedzicki of Poland.

The Grand Prix of Spain begins at 10 a.m. local time on Sunday with the medal matches set for 4:30 p.m. Madrid, Spain, is located six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Time.

Brackets for each style and match-by-match results are available on Scorizer.com.
