Stewart, Rulo remain Triple Crown eligible as finals set in USMC 16U Nationals in Greco-Roman

FARGO, N.D. – Aaron Stewart of Illinois (165) and Jonathan Rulo of Illinois (285) remain eligible for the Junior Triple Crown after winning the Greco-Roman semifinals at the USMC 16U Nationals on Saturday morning.

Stewart beat Salah Tsarni of Maryland in the semifinals, 8-5, and will draw Lucas Boe of Indiana in the finals tonight. Both were 16U freestyle champions on Wednesday, Stewart at 165 and Boe at 157.

Rulo scored an 8-0 technical fall over JT Kelso of Iowa in the semifinals and will battle Brady Hagan of Iowa in the finals.

One Triple Crown contender was defeated in the 144-pound semifinals when Dominic Wilson of Texas stopped Noah Bull of Utah, 13-6. Bull had won 2024 16U folkstyle and freestyle national titles.

Three returning champions have reached the finals, Stewart, plus Loc Webber of Ohio (100) and Hayden Schwab of Iowa (106). Webber will face Landon Thoennes of Minnesota in the finals, while Schwab will battle Montero Royal of South Carolina in his final.

One returning 16U Greco-Roman champion was defeated at 120 pounds, when Arseni Kikiniou of California beat Will Detar of Pennsylvania, 5-1

Six 2024 16U freestyle champions who entered the Greco-Roman tournament are in the finals: Schwab, Stewart, Boe and Rulo, plus Ariah Mills of Georgia (94) and Alex Taylor of Ohio (215).

Two runners-up from the 2023 16U Greco-Roman Nationals are in the quarterfinals, Austin Collins of Colorado (132) and David Calkins of California (190).

Two 2023 14U Greco-Roman National champions made the finals, James Whitbred of Pennsylvania (144) and Ivan Ivanov of Idaho (157).

The consolation finals and medal matches will be held at 3:00 p.m. Central time, followed by the finals at 6:00 p.m. Central time.
