Olympians Parrish wins gold, Hildebrandt a silver at 53 kg at Poland Open

WARSAW, Poland – 2024 U.S. Olympians Dom Parrish (Corvallis, Ore./Sunkist Kids/Beaver Dam RTC) and Sarah Hildebrandt (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC/USOPTC) placed first and second respectively at 53 kg in women’s wrestling at the Poland Open on Thursday.
Parrish will compete at 53 kg at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, while Hildebrandt will compete at 50 kg in Paris. Hildebrandt competed up one weight class at the Poland Open.
Parrish and Hildebrandt were in a five-athlete round-robin at 53 kg, and both finished with 3-1 records. Parish scored a technical fall, a decision and a forfeit, while Hildebrandt won three bouts by technical fall.
When Parrish and Hildebrandt were scheduled to compete against each other, they chose not to, and Parrish won the bout by forfeit.
Parrish was a 2022 World champion and was also a member of the 2023 Senior World Team. Hildebrandt, a 2020 Olympic bronze medalist, has won two Senior World silver medals and two Senior World bronze medals.
Senior National Team member Katie Gomez (Van Nuys, Calif./Sunkist Kids) placed fifth at 53 kg with a 1-3 record. Gomez lost to both Parrish and Hildebrandt in their round robin.
Also placing fifth at 50 kg was Alexis Miller (Wagoner, Okla./Viking WC), who finished with an 0-3 record. She was defeated in a bronze-medal match by Natalia Walczak of Poland, 11-0.
The competition continues on Friday, with three U.S. athletes competing. At 57 kg, 2016 Olympic champion, 2020 Olympic bronze medalist and three-time World champion Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md./Sunkist Kids WC) will compete, along with Senior National Team member Alex Hedrick (Fair Oaks, Calif./Titan Mercury WC). At 59 kg, Michaela Beck (New York, N.Y./Sunkist Kids WC) will also compete.
The tournament concludes on Saturday, with two U.S. athletes on the mat at 72 kg, Senior National Team member Yelena Makoyed (Orangevale, Calif./Cardinal WC/Titan Mercury WC) plus Shenita Lawson (Euless, Texas/New York AC).
Warsaw is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone. Session times are 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. local time
