Cornell leads with 91.5 points after day one of EIWA Championships

The EIWA Tournament kicked off on Friday, March 8, at Bucknell’s Sojka Pavilion in Lewisburg, Pa. Cornell, aiming to win its 28th team title, leads the team race following the first day of action. The Big Red accumulated 91.5 points and have nine athletes in the semifinals, with four qualified for the 2024 DI NCAA Wrestling Championships in Benny Baker (174 pounds), Chris Foca (184 pounds), Jacob Cardenas (197 pounds) and Lewis Fernandes (285 pounds).
Lehigh follows with 80.5 points, and six in the semifinals. Two automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in Michael Beard (197 pounds) and Nathan Taylor (285 pounds). Army West Point and Pennsylvania are tied for third place with 62.5 points. Columbia rounds out the top five with 51 points.
There were 16 wrestlers that automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships by placing at the EIWA Tournament after day one.
