Larkin, Hillger win bouts on final day of men’s freestyle at Yasar Dogu in Turkey

ANTALYA, Turkey - The United States wrapped up its final day of men’s freestyle competition on Sunday at the Yasar Dogu International, with five athletes on the mats. None of the U.S. entries were able to qualify for a medal match on Sunday.

Winning his first two matches before losing in the quarterfinals was Kyler Larkin at 61 kg. Larkin was not pulled back into repechage when his opponent failed to reach the finals.

Also securing a victory at 125 kg was Trent Hillger, who defeated Lazarev of Kyrgyzstan in his opening match, 6-0, then was defeated by Hakan of Turkey in the second match, 8-4.

Also competing on Sunday were Taylor LaMont at 61 kg, Wyatt Sheets at 70 kg and Gary Traub at 125 kg.

LaMont, who also wrestled in Greco-Roman earlier in the week, was edged 3-2 in his opening match by Emre Kural of Turkey, who went on to win a silver medalist. LaMont was the only U.S. wrestlers pulled back into repechage, where he was defeated by Amirtayev of Kazakhstan.
