St. Cloud State remains No. 1 and UCO No. 2 in NCAA Div. II Men's Coaches Rankings
by NWCA
MANHEIM, Pa.- The St. Cloud State Huskies held onto the top spot in NCAA Division II men's wrestling, in the first regular-season edition of the NCAA DII Men's Coaches Association Rankings released Monday by the NWCA.
The rankings, which feature 15 ranked individuals at each weight for the first time instead of 12, are topped by the Huskies with 106.0 total points from 10 ranked wrestlers. Reigning National Champion Central Oklahoma stayed at #2, with 87.0 total points and eight ranked individuals. UW-Parkside (76.5 pts), McKendree (59.5 pts) and Nebraska-Kearney (52.0 pts) round out the top five ranked teams in the tournament-style team ranking.
Matching SCSU with 10 ranked wrestlers is Glenville State, while both Central Oklahoma and UW-Parkside have eight ranked individually. All 10 top-ranked wrestlers come from different teams, with just the #1 at 141 changing from the preseason edition of the poll. Angel Flores of Adams State, who finished fourth a season ago at the weight, takes over the top spot.
Super Region 5 led the way with 34 ranked wrestlers, including a number one in Jaxson Rohman of Augustana. Super Region 3 has 30 ranked wrestlers, including three number ones: Gavin Quiocho of Glenville State at 133, David Hunsberger of Lander at 165 and Ty McGeary of West Liberty at 184. Super Region 4 features the most teams ranked in the Top 25 with six, including #2 UCO, #4 McKendree, #11 Indianapolis, #21 Maryville, #24 Central Missouri and #25 Ouachita Baptist.
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) has the most ranked wrestlers with 32, and is tied for most ranked teams (4) with the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
The next edition of the poll will come out just before the end of the calendar year, Dec. 23, 2024.
Rankings Note: The national rankers meet the Thursday prior to release, so this poll features results through Nov. 20, 2024. This is a tournament power index ranking; the poll is not based on a team's dual strength.
