U.S. team receives draws in all three styles for U23 Pan American Championships in Queretaro, Mexico, April 10-12

The United States has received draws for all three styles, Greco-Roman, women’s freestyle and men’s freestyle, for the U23 Pan American Championships in Queretaro, Mexico, April 10-12.

The event begins with Greco-Roman action on Thursday morning at 10:45 a.m. CST in Queretaro, Mexico. The full schedule is listed below.

Davian Guanajuato opens his tournament at 55 kg against 2022 U17 South American Youth Games bronze medalist Jose Castaneda Brito of Colombia. Guanajauto, a 2024 U23 Greco-Roman Nationals runner-up, will be making his international debut on Thursday.

At 60 kg, Jakason Burks is set to face Derick Martinez Mateo of Puerto Rico. Martinez Mateo is a two-time U17 Pan American Championships medalist in freestyle and two-time U17 Pan American Championships medalist in Greco-Roman.

In a round robin style bracket at 63 kg, Jonathan Gurule meets 2022 U17 South American Youth Games silver medalist Marcelo Sialle Corvalan of Argentina in the first round. In round two, Gurule is slated to face four-time age-group Pan American Championships medalist Angel Segura Tellez of Mexico, followed by Sebastian Bustamante Mejias of Chile in round three.

Richard Fedalen, competing at 67 kg, meets 2024 Senior South American Open bronze medalist and 2023 Senior Pan American Games team member Lisandro Cabrera Ortiz of Paraguay to open his tournament.

At 72 kg, Clay Radenz, also making his international debut, will wrestle in a round robin bracket with 2021 U17 Pan American Championships silver medalist Jorge Gomez Garcia of Mexico and 2023 U20 Pan American Championships silver medalist Arnoldo Proboste of Argentina.

Hunter Garvin, competing in both Greco-Roman and freestyle, will face three-time age-group Pan American Championships medalist and 2022 U17 South American Youth Games gold medalist Darfel Parada Camacaro of Venezuela on Thursday at 77 kg.

Adrian Artsisheuskiy, competing at 82 kg, matches up against Omar Mendoza De Ramon of Mexico in round one, and Maximo Cabrera of Argentina in round two.

At 87 kg, Tyson Beauperthuy is slated to face two-time age-group Pan American Championships gold medalist and 2024 U20 World Team member Brian Ruiz Marin of Venezuela in round one.

Past World Team members Michael Altomer will face Ebian Gonzalez Valdes of Cuba at 97 kg in the first round, while Keith Miley matches up against Ayden Williams of Barbados at 130 kg.

Women’s freestyle action begins on Friday in Queretaro. Ava Bayless, wrestling at 50 kg, opens her tournament against Greili Bencosme Carvajal of Cuba, a 2021 Junior Pan American Games silver medalist and 2021 U20 Pan American Championships silver medalist.

At 53 kg, Sydney Petzinger takes on two-time age-group World Team member Yusneiry Agrazal West of Panama in her first match.

Montana Delawder, wrestling at 55 kg, is set to face a trio of international challengers in a round robin bracket. Sophia Bechard of Canada, who placed 17th at the 2023 U20 World Championships, Lilia Gutama Chunir of Ecuador, and Josefina Ramirez Duarte of Mexico, who finished 12th at the 2024 U20 World Championships, are in the group with Delawder.

At 59 kg, Bella Williams will face Olivia Lichti of Canada, Karla Ramos Espinosa of Mexico, and Camila Roa Ortega of Peru, a two-time age-group Pan American Championships medalist.

2023 U23 World Team member Katerina Lange sees two-time age-group Pan American Championships silver medalist Leiddy Acuna Penaranda of Ecuador to open the tournament.

At 65 kg, Nina Makem opens against Angelina Ellis Toddington of Canada, a two-time age-group World Team member, and then faces Elide Castanon Buendia of Mexico, who finished 5th at the 2021 U17 Pan American Championships.

At 68 kg, past Senior National Team member and U23 National champion Brooklyn Hays will face Leonela Gruezo Ortiz of Ecuador, a 2022 U17 South American Youth Games gold medalist and 2022 U17 Pan American Championships gold medalist.

U23 National runner-up Kalila Shrive is slated to open her tournament against 2024 U23 Pan American Championships bronze medalist Melanie Sanchez Morales of Chile, followed by Victoria Esparragoza Ramos of Venezuela.

In men’s freestyle competition, set for Saturday, two-time age-group World Champion Luke Lilledahl matches up against Ricardo Pena Valencia of Mexico, who placed 5th at the 2023 U17 Pan American Championships.

Zan Fugitt draws a round-robin-style group with three opponents. His first match will be against 2024 U20 World Team member Blayne Helou of Canada, followed by a battle with Diego Jimenez Pinacho of Mexico. He'll end the group stage against Derick Martinez Mateo of Puerto Rico, who is also competing at 60 kg in Greco-Roman on Thursday.

At 65 kg, CJ Composto faces Alexis Veron of Argentina in his opening bout, aiming to make a statement early in the bracket.

John Wiley will battle through a round robin bracket at 70 kg, starting against Donavan Solorzano Amaya of Honduras, who placed 9th at the 2024 U23 Pan American Championships. Wiley will also square off against Diego Hernandez Perez of Guatemala, who finished 11th at the 2023 U20 Pan American Championships.

In freestyle, Garvin faces Alonzo Smiley Garcia of Mexico in his opening round at 74 kg.

At 79 kg, Levi Haines enters a competitive bracket with four opponents. In his bracket are Jackson Deen Glasgow of Canada, Josue Camargo Molina of Colombia. Josue Alvarez Sintuj of Guatemala, and Alan Vera Gomez of Mexico. Alvarez Sintuj is a 2024 Pat Shaw Memorial bronze medalist, while Vera Gomez is a 2023 U17 Pan American Championships silver medalist.

Jaxon Smith’s first bout comes against Kevin De Leon Trevino of Mexico at 86 kg, who placed 7th at the 2024 U23 Pan American Championships.

Connor Mirasola has two opponents in his group, Joseph De Maio of Canada, and Miguel Lavielle Ramirez of Mexico, who earned a 5th place finish at the 2022 U20 Pan American Championships.

At 97 kg, Massoma Endene, a 2024 U23 World Team member, opens against Alek Ortiz Roman of Puerto Rico, a 2024 U23 Pan American bronze medalist and 2023 U20 Pan American silver medalist.

2024 U23 World Team member Lucas Stoddard is slated to face the winner between Gabriel Lee Skinner of Panama — 2024 Youth Bolivarian Games gold medalist — or Ethan Vergara of Puerto Rico, a 2024  U20 World Team member in both freestyle and Greco-Roman. In 2024, Stoddard won gold at the U23 Pan American Championships.

Competition begins at 10:45 a.m. in Queretaro, Mexico, on April 10, with Greco-Roman qualification rounds and repechage. On Friday, April 11, Women’s freestyle action gets underway at 10 a.m. Saturday sees men’s freestyle competition with a 10 a.m. start time. The finals are set for 5 p.m. each day.
