College Wrestling Notebook: Iowa gets past Nebraska, Cornell wins 44th Ivy League title

Week 15 of the college wrestling season has come and gone, bringing plenty of exciting action for college wrestling fans to enjoy. Here are a few highlights from the past weekend that you may have missed.

Dual of the week

In a Big Ten showdown on Friday night, No. 3 Iowa narrowly defeated No. 7 Nebraska, 19-16. The dual came down to the final two bouts at 197 and 285, where Iowa’s top-ranked Stephen Buchanan pinned No. 22 Camden McDanel, and No. 11 Ben Kueter secured a major decision over No. 21 Harley Andrews.

Performance of the week

Cornell went 2-0 on the weekend with wins over Penn and Princeton, winning its 44th overall and fourth-straight Ivy League title on Sunday. The Big Red are 9-1 overall this season and finished conference action 5-0.

Move of the week

Northern Michigan’s Sophia Bassino was trailing 6-0 to Grand Valley State’s Elleni Johnson at 160 pounds before this monster takedown that led to a pin at 4:56.

Upset of the week

No. 4 Ohio State fell to No. 7 Minnesota in a Big Ten battle over the weekend, but a highlight from the Buckeyes came at 125 pounds when No. 18 Brendan McCrone defeated No. 9 Cooper Flynn in a 9-0 major decision.
