KLIPPAN, Sweden – SaVannah Cosme won three straight matches to qualify for the gold-medal finals of the 2025 Klippan Lady Open in the Senior division. Cosme has drawn 2024 Olympian and 2018 U20 World bronze medalist Johanna Lindborg of Sweden in Sunday’s championship match.

Cosme opened with a pin in 4:04 over Eyleen Sewina of Germany. In the quarterfinals, she edged Canada’s Ella Doornaert, 6-5, the beat 2022 European bronze medalist Natalia Kubaty of Poland in the semifinals, 8-1.

Cosme, a 2022 U20 World Team member, has already had significant success at the Senior level in her young career. She was third at the 2022 Bill Farrell Memorial International and fourth at the 2024 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. She has twice placed at the U.S. Senior Open, placing fifth in December 2023 and sixth in April 2023.

There are seven U.S. women who lost one match on Saturday and have qualified for a bronze-medal bout on Sunday: Amelia Murphy (50 kg), Everest Leydecker (53 kg), Carissa Qureshi (55 kg), Hannah Errthum (62 kg), Skylar Slade (65 kg), Destiny Rodriguez (68 kg) and Alexandria Alli (72 kg).

All of the U.S. wrestlers competing in the Senior division in Klippan are also eligible for international age-group competition. Of those U.S. wrestlers in bronze-medal matches, six were defeated by talented international opponents in the semifinals round. Alli was second in her pool competition, which advanced her to a bronze medal match.

The only athletes who know their opponent for the bronze medal round are Qureshi, who will face 2024 Nordic UU17 bronze medalist Sara Rantonen of Finland, and Alli, who draws 2022 European U20 bronze medalist Jennifer Rosler of Germany. Qureshi and Alli are members of USA Wrestling’s Elite Accelerator Program (EAP), where they train at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The other five U.S. women still in medal contention must await the winner of a repechage match on Sunday morning to determine their bronze-medal opponent.

The competition continues at 10:00 a.m. local time with repechage, and the finals are set for 1:00 p.m. local time. Klippan is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time.
