Radecki and Mathers win U17 golds, Grimes adds U17 bronze at Klippan Lady Open in Sweden

KLIPPAN, Sweden – All three U17 women’s freestyle wrestlers claimed a medal, including two golds, and the United States placed fourth in the team standings at the Klippan Lady Open on Saturday.
Claiming U17 gold medals were Natalie Radecki (43 kg) and Reagan Mathers (49 kg).
Radecki pinned both of her opponents in Pool B on Friday, which qualified her for Saturday’s championship match, were she secured a 10-0 technical fall over Nelly Ziernberg of Germany.
Radecki was second in the 2024 16U Nationals, and third in the 2024 U17 Nationals.
Mathers ended the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record. She won three matches in Pool A on Friday. Saturday morning, she finished off her Pool A competition with two more wins, an 8-0 victory over Kari Bjerge of Norway and a 3-2 decision over Rita Rantonen of Finland. In the finals, Mathers pinned Lea Lingscheidt of Germany in 3:08.
Mathers burst onto the national scene in women’s freestyle this fall when she won a Super 32 title at 112 pounds. She was also a champion at the PNL event in Salt Lake City.
Claiming a bronze medal for Team USA was Emma Grimes (57 kg).
Grimes went 2-1 in Pool B competition on Friday. She closed out pool competition on Saturday with a pin over Emma Steuer of Germany, which qualified her for a bronze-medal match. Grimes finished off the event with a 10-0 technical fall win over Liv Sandik-Kleppesto of Norway for the bronze medal.
Grimes was a runner-up at the 2023 U15 National Championships and placed third in the 2023 U14 National Championships.
All three were featured in the most recent National Girls High School rankings, with Mathers at No. 4 at 110 pounds, Grimes at No. 14 at 125 pounds and Radecki at No. 18 at 100 pounds.
The tournament continues on Saturday afternoon with the Senior division. The USA has 11 athletes competing in the Senior division.
