SUNDSVALL, Sweden – A team of U.S. Greco-Roman wrestlers are competing in the U20 division at the Sundsvall Open on Sunday. The U.S. wrestlers come from the Northern Michigan University National Training Site or from the Combat WC.
Three U.S. wrestlers, competing in smaller brackets, secured medals in their weight classes on Saturday. Capturing gold medals were Gabe Brown of NMU/NTS at 60 kg and Brennan Carey of NMU/NTS at 130 kg. Securing a bronze medal at 87 kg is Mason Parsons of NMY/NTS
Brown won both of his matches by technical fall, stopping Swedish wrestlers Otto Huuhtanen and Zet Flink
Carey won his weight class uncontested, as he was the only entry at 130 kg.
Parsons went 0-2 in his three athlete round robin. He lost a tight 13-10 decision to Sweden’s Johan Garbell, then lost his other match by technical fall.
Six other U.S. wrestlers are still alive in their weight classes heading into the conclusion of the tournament on Sunday. All remain eligible for a medal.
Four of these wrestlers were undefeated on day one, Amryn Nutter of Combat WC (63 kg), Gunnar Hamre of NMU-NTS (67 kg), Ashton Miess of Combat WC (77 kg) and Will Scherer of Combat WC (77 kg).
