Olympic champion Kyle Snyder is helping spearhead the launch of a youth wrestling club at Mully Children’s Family Ndalani Campus located on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya.

Mully Children’s Family is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the children of Kenya. Founded by Charles Mully 35 years ago, Mully Children’s Family has impacted the lives of over 27-thousand orphan children in Kenya and provides each with elements of care such as food, housing, education and medical support.

In November, Snyder visited Kenya along with John Bardis, a longtime wrestling supporter and producer of the award-winning film Mully, to scope out starting a wrestling club. Over 75 children came to the first wrestling club meeting and were given t-shirts, which sparked more interest in the sport at Mully Children’s Family Ndalani Campus.

“I’m very thankful to be able to work with these kids and introduce this sport to them,” Snyder said. “Obviously you want the kids to have the success, but we know wrestling is such a great sport because of the way it builds your character and teaches you about who you are.”

The targeted timeline to launch the wrestling club is October 2025. The goal is to finish up an athletic facility at Mully Children’s Family Ndalani Campus in April and have mats and supplies shipped out in time for the fall launch.

Snyder and team are currently seeking coaches and athletes from the U.S. interested in helping with the club. The initial plan is for individuals to commit to a six-month rotation living at Mully Children’s Family Ndalani Campus and coaching at the club. Those interested in learning more about this opportunity can fill out this application form.

Ultimately, Snyder aspires to have an athlete from this wrestling club qualify to compete at the Olympic Games. He believes pouring resources into this club could be a catalyst for major growth of wrestling’s popularity in Africa and help develop high-level wrestlers to compete on the international stage.
