TRENTON, N.J. – The 2025 MAC Championships highlighted a front runner that is one step closer to punching its ticket to winning the conference. After day one, the Central Michigan Chippewas hold a 13-point lead over second-place Lock Haven with six athletes headed to tomorrow night’s championship finals at CURE Insurance Arena.

Central Michigan tallied 98 team points, while Lock Haven sits at 85 points. Host school Rider, George Mason and Ohio round out the top five. Rider and Lock Haven each booked four wrestlers into the finals, and Ohio holding strong with two.

Two Chippewas picked up bonus-point wins in their semifinal matchups. No. 1 seed Johnny Lovett earned an 18-3 technical fall over Landen Johnson from Northern Illinois, the largest margin of victory of all semifinal matches. Alex Cramer, the top-seed in the 174-pound class, shut out Logan Messer from George Mason, 10-0. Other finalists for Central Michigan include Sean Spidle at 133 pounds, Andrew Austin at 141 pounds, Mason Shrader at 149 pounds and Chandler Amaker at 165 pounds.

Two tournament favorites from Lock Haven dominated their semifinal matchups. Anthony Noto won decisively over Edinboro’s Colton Camacho, 12-1, at 125 pounds. Fellow top-seed Wyatt Henson dominated Danny Martinez from SIU Edwardsville, 13-2. Also in the finals for Lock Haven are Tucker Hogan at 197 pounds and Gavin Hoffman at heavyweight.

All the top seeds navigated Friday unscathed, now one win away from an individual conference crown. The same cannot be said for the championship favorites on the bottom half of each bracket. Only half of the No. 2 seeds made it undefeated on day one. A pair of No. 7 seeds, Travis Clawson of Clarion and Jared McGill of Edinboro, were the highest seeded athletes to make the finals.

Clawson kicked off the upset train with a 17-3 major decision over No. 2 seed Noah Michaels of Rider in the quarters, before stopping George Mason’s Ben Monn, 8-3, in the 125-pound semifinals. Clawson will take on top-seeded Blake West from Northern Illinois tomorrow night.

After edging No. 2 seed Colin Fegley of Lock Haven by four points in the quarters, McGill shut out No. 3 Malachi DuVall from George Mason by decision, 7-0, in the 184-pound semifinals. He advanced to face Isaac Dean of Rider, the top-seed in the class, for the MAC crown.

In the 165-pound semifinal, Amaker, Central Michigan’s No. 6 seed, advanced to the finals with an injury default win over No. 2 Evan Maag of George Mason. Amaker faces No. 1 Enrique Munguia from Rider in the finals to decide the winner of the 165-pound title.

The 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships continue on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. (ET) with the remaining consolation rounds. The championship finals are set for 3 p.m. (CT), with the action streaming live on ESPN+.
