2023 World Beach Games Athlete and Staff Selection procedures are now posted

The selection procedures for wrestling athletes and staff for the 2023 World Beach Games in Bali, Indonesia, August 5-12, have been posted.

USA Wrestling Team Selection Criteria

This is the second World Beach Games, with the inaugural event held in Qatar, October 12-16, 2019. This multi-sport event is organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Beach Wrestling is one of 14 select sports in the Bali 2023 World Beach Games. The dates for Beach Wrestling in Bali will be August 11-12. The rest of the sports programme at Bali 2023 comprises: Aquathlon, Beach Handball, Beach Soccer, Beach Tennis, Beach Volleyball 4×4, Beach Waterpolo, Beach Wrestling, Individual Kata, Open Water Swimming 5km, 3x3 Basketball, AirBadminton, Surfing, Beach Sprint Rowing, and WingFoil Racing.

There are eight weight classes in Senior Beach Wrestling, four for men and four for women.
Men: 70 kg, 80 kg, 90 kg, +90 kg
Women: 50 kg, 60 kg, 70 kg, +70kg

ANOC Qualification System for Beach Wrestling

The first phase of the qualification process includes the five United World Wrestling Beach World Series Qualifying events. The first three events were held in 2022 in France, Greece and Romania. The last two events will be held in 2023, at a site and date to be announced by United World Wrestling. The eight (8) highest ranked athletes per weight category of the Beach Wrestling World Series Ranking as of June 19, 2023 will earn one (1) quota place for their National Olympic Committee, with each nation allowed just one athlete per weight class. An athlete does not qualify himself/herself for the World Beach Games. He/she qualifies their nation at that weight.

In weight classes where the USA qualifies for the 2023 World Beach Games, the posted Athlete Selection Procedures will be conducted to select the specific athlete to compete in Bali.

There will be one staff member assigned to handle team leader and coach duties for the U.S. team in Beach Wrestling at the World Beach Games in Bali. Procedures for the staff selection are also posted by USA Wrestling.

In addition to the USA Wrestling Selection Procedures for the 2023 World Beach Games, USA Wrestling has posted 16 other selection procedures documents for U.S. Senior and age-group teams which will compete internationally in 2023.
