Sydney Perry selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Sydney Perry (Batavia, Ill.) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Nov. 3, 2021.
Perry competed at the Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals in Des Moines, Iowa, where she entered the weekend as the No. 7 wrestler in the nation at 138 pounds. Working her way through a loaded bracket, Perry won the title and earned the Outstanding Wrestler honor of the tournament.
To make it to the finals, Perry collected a 7-0 shutout, an 11-0 major decision and a 4-2 win. For gold, Perry recorded a decisive 6-0 victory over No. 10 ranked Avangeline Turner of Central Catholic WC of California in the finals.
Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.
